Volunteer with NCEMS

Become a Part of Our Family of Volunteer EMTS

Members of NCEMS will tell you how incredibly rewarding and life-changing it is to be an EMT in our community, particularly because we are helping people in our hometown - we ARE neighbors helping neighbors - responding to emergencies experienced by people in our community who are in need of urgent help.

We all take pride in our ability to consistently and compassionately provide the highest level of pre hospital emergency medical care to our neighbors every day of the year - 24/7 - absolutely free of charge.

Our members, all of whom are certified EMTs and fully vaccinated against Covid-19, are a diverse group of accomplished men and women ranging from teenagers to grandparents. We are students, teachers, lawyers, firefighters, social workers, bankers, salespeople, entrepreneurs, philanthropists, nurses, artists, and more. What we share is a strong dedication to serving the health and safety of our community.

Our team members form strong bonds of confidence, trust, and friendship as we all train and work together. These connections help us to make the best decisions as a team as we manage the care and transport of our patients - your loved ones. And...we enjoy what we do!

Read about some of our current volunteers and find out what some of our former members are doing now on our Meet the Corps and Alumni pages.

We Understand the Challenges of Daily Life

We get it - it is difficult to manage homes, jobs, school, families, pets, friends, and social lives! NCEMS offers our members as much flexibility as possible while still providing the community with outstanding emergency care 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Our active riding members work in teams and are committed to riding weekday or weeknight shifts and one weekend shift each month.

NCEMS also provides all members with monthly training opportunities to maintain our skills at the highest level. These training modules also meet the continuing education hours needed to maintain our EMT certification.

High School Student Applicants

NCEMS admits a limited number of High School students each year who will join to become an active EMT with the same responsibilities as all other EMTs at NCEMS. This requires a significant commitment during one’s junior and senior years. The minimum age required for EMT certification is 16 years old, so we encourage interested students to complete a Connecticut-approved EMT class as early as possible in their High School career so they can get certified and submit their applications before their junior year.
