Applying for Membership to New Canaan EMS
To apply for membership to New Canaan EMS, you must be a Connecticut-certified EMT which is obtained following the successful completion of a Connecticut-approved EMT class. As part of the class, you will also complete EMT certification from the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) and the AHA Basic Life Support (CPR and AED) Program. For information about Connecticut EMT classes, go to our EMT Training page or email our EMT class coordinator at [email protected].
Once you are certified, complete the application — available below in pdf and docx formats — and submit it to us by email at [email protected] or mail it to: New Canaan EMS, Attn. Membership Chair, 182 South Avenue, New Canaan, CT 06840.
The Application includes a Consent for a Background Check and Medical Clearance from your personal physician. After submitting your application, you will be contacted to arrange a time to come into the station, meet with some of the membership team, ask questions and learn more about being a volunteer with NCEMS.
Please don't hesitate to contact our membership team if you have any questions; or email us at [email protected]. We look forward to speaking with you about this rewarding and life changing experience!
High School Student Applicants
NCEMS admits a limited number of High School students each year who will join to become an active EMT with the same responsibilities as all other EMTs at NCEMS. This requires a significant commitment during one’s junior and senior years. The minimum age required for EMT certification is 16 years old, so we encourage interested students to complete a Connecticut-approved EMT class as early as possible in their High School career so they can get certified and submit their applications before their junior year or as soon as they turn 16 years old.Application for Membership (pdf)
